A really long time ago, Bombay had a multitude of operational textile mills in the Dadar / Parel / Byculla areas. Of course, as with many other things in this country, these fell into disarray, the reasons for which are plenty. Anyway, since 2005, the National Textile Corporation (NTC) has sold the now-defunct mills to private businesses. Many commercial establishments have come up in these “mills”, which I mentioned in this earlier post. However, some of these old mills have become derelict over time and completely abandoned.
Today I had an interview at an office building which is located in the Apollo Mills compound in Mahalaxmi. Now, this office building is one of the swankiest I have ever been to. It is modern, spacious and well-lit. However, this modern office building is surrounded by structures like in the image above – dilapidated and broken.
The city of contrasts that Bombay is, just never ceases to amaze me.
